<div><p>When I bought a Super Serial Card II for my (Unitron clone of a) Apple ][+, I realized that it only came with the //e backplate for securing the DB-25 cable to the back of the computer.</p>
<p>Of course, I decided to try to build one myself, based on some reference images I found on eBay listings and from the Super Serial Card&apos;s manual itself.</p>
<p>Overall, I think it&apos;s a pretty decent reconstruction, though there are a few things I wouldn&apos;t mind changing. That&apos;s why it&apos;s still a WIP; I&apos;ll probably do an update to it someday.</p>
<p>The screw holes are for example too big in diameter, so the screws don&apos;t fit too well, especially in the back panel (and if you&apos;re screwing any cables onto the DB-25 port, they&apos;ll probably try to bring the port with them when you take them off). Also, there&apos;s still quite a bit of movement in the clamp itself, especially when the lid isn&apos;t on.</p>
<p>Not bad for a few hours and ten or so test prints, though, so I&apos;ll probably be able to fix those things if I revisit it sometime.</p>
<p>Anyhow, I figured I&apos;d share this, as I couldn&apos;t find a model anywhere else online (if I did, I don&apos; t think I would&apos;ve tried to make my own, but it was a good experience nonetheless :]</p>

</ul><p>CAVEATS: It&apos;s designed for my Unitron clone - on an actual Apple computer the cutouts in the case I believe are lower or bigger, whereas with mine the case lid would not have been able to close if I hadn&apos;t cut the big notch from the top.</p>
<p>Also, I made it in FreeCAD, but I&apos;m still getting used to it, so my source file doesn&apos;t make much sense at all. You&apos;re honestly better off with the STL mesh if you want to print one of these things yourself, even if you want to customize it (I&apos;ve tested importing them to SketchUp and it works pretty well).</p></div>

                        </p><div><p>The PETG I used prints kinda like PLA (needs to be a bit hotter/slower, though) and it&apos;s <em>almost</em> flexible as something like TPU (at least from what I know of flexible filaments).</p>
<p>Most importantly, it&apos;s a good compromise between being flexible and being strong. Less rigid than PLA, but some of the finer details would&apos;ve been a difficulty with PLA, especially in taking off the supports.</p>
<p>Speaking of which, you&apos;ll probably have a bit of trouble with the supports on the back side part, especially along the cutout. But if you use something like what I found with a bit of &quot;give&quot; then it shouldn&apos;t let you down.</p></div>

Apple II+ - Super Serial Card II - DB25 Cable Clamp

Not bad for a few hours and ten or so test prints, though, so I'll probably be able to fix those things if I revisit it sometime.

Anyhow, I figured I'd share this, as I couldn't find a model anywhere else online (if I did, I don' t think I would've tried to make my own, but it was a good experience nonetheless :]

CAVEATS: It's designed for my Unitron clone - on an actual Apple computer the cutouts in the case I believe are lower or bigger, whereas with mine the case lid would not have been able to close if I hadn't cut the big notch from the top.

Also, I made it in FreeCAD, but I'm still getting used to it, so my source file doesn't make much sense at all. You're honestly better off with the STL mesh if you want to print one of these things yourself, even if you want to customize it (I've tested importing them to SketchUp and it works pretty well).

                        </p><div><p>Depending on your layer height the fit might be a little too lose or too tight. I recommend testing small pieces first and adjusting either the z-scaling or the layer height to find a combination that works.</p></div>
<h3 class="thing-component-header design how-i-designed-this">How I Designed This</h3>
<p class="detail-title"><strong>Converting Files</strong></p>
                <div><p>The original model only provided PDF files of each model. In the past I&apos;ve used easy, online converters to turn them into SVG files to import into Fusion360. But these files somehow always produced an error when converting straight from PDF to SVG and then importing.<br>
By first turning the PDFs into PNG files and then into SVGs I was able to finally import them into Fusion.</p></div>
                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Adding the sprue</strong></p>
                <div><p>I arranged the imported files in a way that I liked. Then encompassed them with a rectangle frame and from there started adding the &quot;sprue&quot; to give it the classic kit card look.</p></div>
